Centre County adds 97 new cases of COVID-19, while Pennsylvania has 1,162 new positives
Centre County added 97 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, according to the state Department of Health, bringing its total to 1,727 since March 20. Of that total, 1,667 cases have been confirmed and 60 are probable. There have been 22,520 negative tests.
There is one patient hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Centre County, according to the state’s dashboard. No COVID patients are on ventilators.
Cases are continuing to increase on a weekly basis in Centre County, according to the state’s early warning dashboard. There were 78 more cases in the most recent week (525 cases from Sept. 11-17) than the previous week (447 cases from Sept. 4-10). In that same time period, the incidence rate per 100,000 people increased to 322.5 from 274.6, and the percent positivity increased to 12.1% from 9.7%. The percent of emergency department visits due to COVID-19 ticked up to 1.3% from 0.8%, while average daily hospitalizations fell to 1.4 from 1.6.
Centre’s 12.1% positivity rate is the highest in Pennsylvania, as is its 322.5 incidence rate. The county with the next-highest incidence rate is York, with 85.2. Centre also had the second-biggest increase in cases from the most recent week compared to the previous week, following Berks County’s 105.
There have been 11 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Centre County, according to the Department of Health. Of those deaths, DOH data shows eight were nursing or personal care home residents.
Pennsylvania added 1,162 new cases, according to the state’s dashboard, bringing its total number of confirmed and probable cases to 149,845.
