Columbus named one of the best places to work remotely. Here’s why.
More than five million Americans work remotely, according to RentCafe, and another 19 million are ready to follow suit.
If you live in Georgia or are looking to move to the Peach State for remote work, you will be pleasantly surprised.
In a study, RentCafe analyzed more than 150 cities using 19 metrics such as cost of living, apartment rental rates, internet options and percentage of remote workers and found that two of the top 10 cities are in Georgia.
Alpharetta, Georgia, made the list at number six and Columbus was named the eighth best place to work remotely.
Here are the top 10 best cities for remote work:
Greenville, South Carolina
Raleigh, North Carolina
West Palm Beach, Florida
Tampa, Florida
Durham, North Carolina
Alpharetta, Georgia
Huntsville, Alabama
Columbus, Georgia
College Station, Texas
Rockville, Maryland
So, why Columbus?
The South and Southeast region of the country dominated the top 10, but why?
Well, the South is known for sunny days, mild climates and good air quality, according to the study.
Columbus, specifically, is desirable because of its average square footage of rentals, average download speed and share of short-term rentals.
The city is also most loved for its many outdoor activity options, as it is home to the world’s longest urban white water course, a botanical garden and several bike trails and parks.
Other honorable mentions include Atlanta at number 18 and Macon, Georgia at number 20 on the list.
