Black wins Republican nomination for State College mayor
Michael Black will be the Republican nominee for State College mayor in November’s general election after securing enough write-in votes.
Joyce McKinley, Centre County elections office director, said the write-in results were certified last week.
He ran as a Democrat but needed at least 10 write-in votes on the Republican ballot and to be the highest vote getter in order to secure that nomination.
Black earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Springfield College, a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctoral degree in higher education at Penn State. He started his own business, BLACK SUN studio, in 1994. He is also a 2011 graduate of Leadership Centre County and serves on its executive board.
He’ll face Democratic nominee Donald Hahn, a former State College borough councilman.
The general election is Nov. 7.
