Philipsburg streets flooded by heavy rains

Philipsburg’s Centre Street flooded in heavy rains again Friday.

The event is becoming routine to both the people who live in the area and the people who deal with the water and traffic.

PennDot workers responded with pumps and hoses fed into manhole covers near the intersection with U.S. Route 322. One worker said he was “sure tired” of the regular weather response.

The road was blocked from Presqueisle Street to Route 322, four blocks of one of the most heavily traveled roads in the borough.

An employee at Weis Markets, where the main entrance was blocked, said the water came farther up into the parking lot than it has before.

Customers still came, but not the regular Friday numbers.

“It does hurt business but hurts customers too,” the employee said. “People still need things that can’t wait like medication.”
