Ferguson Township police responded Tuesday night to a reported vehicle crash with entrapment.

The DUI crash occurred at about 11:55 p.m. at the intersection of North Atherton Street and West Aaron Drive.

Thomas Bruce, of State College, is suspected of operating a vehicle under the influence, according to police Chief Chris Albright. Bruce allegedly drove through a solid red light at the intersection after traveling eastbound on West Aaron Drive. His 2016 Nissan hit a 2008 Mistubishi driven by Betty Ashiagbor, of State College.

Bruce and Ashiagbor, who was entrapped in her vehicle, were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash caused the left turn lane from West Aaron Drive to northbound North Atherton Street to be closed and the traffic signal at the intersection to be inoperable. The intersection’s light signals might be back in service Wednesday, according to Albright.

Police have asked that drivers reroute to Blue Course Drive or Martin Street if possible.

Alpha Fire Company and emergency medics also responded to the scene.
