Parks Miller disciplinary hearing was set for Nov. 29. Now it’s not.
Part of the drama in the Centre County courthouse was resolved Tuesday when Bernie Cantorna’s win for district attorney was formalized with 98.4 percent of the vote.
Another part was set to move on with a hearing at the end of the month.
That won’t be happening now.
On Monday, the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania updated its website for case number 32 DB 2017. That is the case against current Centre County DA Stacy Parks Miller.
A disciplinary hearing had been set in August for Nov. 29 in the Pennsylvania Judicial Center. A note on the file now says “hearing continued.”
The continuance comes after a joint motion to move the appearance.
Parks Miller said in August that she was “confident” in the resolution, and that she had requested the hearing.
The original complaint was filed in February. It details 17 violations but two main issues: ex parte communications with judges, specifically Centre County Judge Jonathan Grine and former county judge Bradley Lunsford, and the fake Facebook identity of Britney Bella allegedly used to “befriend people and snoop,” according to an email.
Lunsford left the bench at the end of his term in 2015, announcing retirement in September just three months after declaring he would seek retention in on the November ballot. That came after he was removed from hearing criminal cases other than DUI in December 2014.
Grine accepted a letter of counsel from the Judicial Conduct Board for his part in the communications, with the JCB saying in a statement that his “evidence of genuine remorse” and “willingness to accept public responsibility for his actions” weighed into the decision to give him the letter rather than file charges.
Parks Miller’s term ends in December. Cantorna said Tuesday his swearing-in was set for Dec. 29.
