A new grocery store appears to be on its way to State College.
Aldi recently sponsored posts on Facebook and advertised on its website that its new State College grocery store is in search of a manager.
Asked Tuesday for details on the new store, Aldi Saxonburg Division Vice President J.R. Perry did not give too much away.
“We are considering opening a new store in State College in 2018,” Perry said. “At this time, it is too early to confirm any specific details, and we will follow up when we have more information to share.”

The company recently began to advertise the open position of store manager on the careers section of its site. There will be a hiring event specific to the position from 3 to 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at its Altoona store, which is located at 1706 McMahon Road. An employment application can be downloaded on the site, and only candidates who apply at the event will be considered for the position.
Aldi, which is headquartered in Germany, announced in June that the company would aggressively expand in the United States. The company’s goal is to add 2,500 stores nationwide in five years by investing $5 billion in new and remodeled stores and adding more than 25,000 jobs in the United States.
If an Aldi does open in State College, it would likely have to be at a location that meets the company’s traditional specifications, which are detailed on its website. The grocery store would require about 22,000 square feet, 95 parking spaces, about a 2.5-acre pad of land for purchase and development, a full-access intersection, a dense population and daily traffic of more than 20,000 vehicles per day.
