Gunman taken to hospital after barricading himself in house
Police officers from three departments responded to a home in Spring Township where a gunman barricaded himself.
Spring Township police detailed the Saturday incident in a Facebook post, but did not reveal the address of the house or the man’s identity. Bellefonte and state police also responded to the scene.
The man had a loaded shotgun and threatened to harm himself, according to police who arrived on scene “in minutes” after being notified of the situation. Police secured a perimeter around the home and evacuated other people from the residence.
The man exited the home “after a short time” and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Spring Township police directed those who are struggling to call Centre County CanHelp at 1-800-643-5432.
“If you need someone to talk to, please reach out and get help,” police said in the post. “Thankfully this incident had a peaceful (ending) and the individual is getting help.”
