Mild temperatures and nice weather will shift overnight Monday and into Tuesday morning when a winter storm is expected to hit central Pennsylvania.

The snow will mostly hit from 1 to 6 a.m. Tuesday.

About 2 to 3 inches of snow is expected to fall in State College and surrounding communities, according to AccuWeather and National Weather Service forecasts. There is a 31 percent chance snowfall will exceed expectations and dump up to 6 inches in the Centre Region, according to AccuWeather. There will also be light rain overnight.

NWS State College issued a hazardous weather outlook and said those driving Tuesday morning should be prepared for impact to travel. Those northwest of Centre County should expect more snow and communities southeast of the county will have less snow.

Temperatures across central Pennsylvania will drop below freezing Monday evening and will continue to plummet into the single digits Wednesday, but will increase to about 40 degrees on Thursday afternoon.
