IUP professor announces run for new 15th district
A week after the state Supreme Court delivered a new congressional map, Susan Boser has announced that she’ll continue her campaign, but in a different district.
Boser, who was seeking the Democratic nomination in the 9th Congressional District, is now vying to represent the new 15th district, where Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard Township, is the incumbent.
The 15th district covers much of the old 5th district and includes the western portion of Centre County.
The Indiana University of Pennsylvania professor said in a release that she is running for Congress because she wants to help “make people’s lives better.”
“I have watched the growing poverty and opioid epidemic that are hurting families and destroying communities in rural regions of Pennsylvania,” Boser, of Indiana County, said in a statement. “Congress is not paying attention to these issues and it’s time for a change.”
Wade Jodun, Brookville lawyer Kerith Strano-Taylor and Penn State professor Marc Friedenberg had all originally planned to run for the Democratic nomination in the 5th district. Jodun’s hometown of Mill Hall is in the new 12th district; however, he’s decided to relocate and run for the seat in the 15th district. Strano-Taylor recently announced that she has suspended her campaign and is now aiming for the seat in the 66th District of Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives. Friedenberg is campaigning in the 12th district.
