Macy’s to close Nittany Mall, Harrisburg Mall locations

Macy’s, one of the last remaining anchor stores at the Nittany Mall, is closing this year.

In a statement, Macy’s Director of Media Relations Carolyn Ng Cohen said the company decided to close the Nittany Mall anchor store “after careful consideration.”

A clearance sale will run for eight to 12 weeks starting this month, she said. Depending on how the sale goes, the company will determine an exact closing date.

“Macy’s previously shared this information with our valued colleagues,” she said. “Regular, non-season colleagues will be eligible for severance, including outplacement resources.”

While “the decision to close a store is always a difficult one,” she said, “Macy’s is proud to have served the State College community over the past 21 years.”

When reached by a reporter, a representative from Macy’s executive offices in the Nittany Mall said the store would respond later.

Earlier Monday, PennLive reported that the Macy’s store in the Harrisburg Mall is closing this summer following a clearance sale in May.

The closest operating Macy’s to Centre County is in Altoona at the Logan Valley Mall.

Three years ago, Macy’s announced it was closing 100 stores, six of which were located in Pennsylvania.
