CDT to move print operations to Harrisburg
The Centre Daily Times announced Tuesday that it will move its print and packaging operations to Harrisburg effective Feb. 2.
The CDT’s transportation and distribution operations will remain in State College.
William King, east regional VP of production for McClatchy, the CDT’s parent company, announced the decision at a meeting of production employees Tuesday. The decision, he said, had nothing to do with performance.
“This production team has been exemplary and we are all very proud of their accomplishments and dedication producing newspapers for the Centre County community,” he said.
Moving print and packaging operations will not affect newspaper delivery times for subscribers and readers of the Centre Daily Times. Subscribers may also access news and information online via the eEdition at centredaily.com or www.centredaily.com/e-edition/today.
CDT Publisher and President Janet Santostefano said the business decision was reached after much discussion and after considering factors including aging equipment and continued challenges in filling open skilled production positions locally.
“We ultimately determined outsourcing was the best decision long term,” she said. “We are thankful for the incredible service our production colleagues have provided over the years. Our mission of providing essential local news and information to our readers is unchanged. We remain committed to providing a high quality print edition to our readers, while also focusing on improving platforms for our growing digital audience.”
The print and packaging operations will move to Advance Local’s 177,000-square-foot production facility in Harrisburg. The facility and press, which opened in 2001, prints The Patriot-News and other publications.
