Wolf Furniture stores, including State College store, close after deal falls through amid COVID-19
Wolf Furniture has closed all its stores after a deal to save the family-owned furniture store chain from shutting its doors fell through.
There is a Wolf Furniture store located at 138 Valley Vista Drive in State College.
Robert Levin, former president of Levin Furniture, came out of retirement earlier this month to stop the company from going out of business and acquire Wolf Furniture stores as part of the deal, the CDT reported.
But Michigan-based company Art Van Furniture, which had acquired Wolf Furniture in 2017, said “unprecedented circumstances” and “negative economic impact” surrounding the novel coronavirus spurred it to suspend all sales operations in all of its stores, according to a post of the company’s website.
The coronavirus outbreak also led to Art Van Furniture stopping the sale to Levin, reported the York Dispatch.
Art Van Furniture said it is unable to keep up with its warehouses in Blair and Westmoreland counties in Pennsylvania for customer pick-up, according to a statement on Wolf Furniture’s website.
“We know customers will have questions regarding customer service policies and many other important topics,” said the statement. “Our operational teams are working diligently to finalize and document those details, and we will communicate them to you as soon as possible. We ask for your patience.”
Levin said he will not give up on buying the stores, and will set up a $2 million fund to support employees of the company now out of work, the Dispatch reported.
A representative from Levin Furniture did not return requests for comment.
