PennDOT lifts restrictions on I-80 and I-99 after Monday morning’s winter weather
Centre County received a dose of winter weather Monday morning that led to reduced speed limits on Interstates 80 and 99 and a winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service at State College.
Mixed precipitation was forecast with a total snow accumulation of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch, according to the advisory, which was in effect through Monday afternoon.
Due to “the severity of winter conditions,” there were 45 mph speed restrictions in place for I-80 in both directions between exits 161 (Bellefonte) and 97 (Dubois/Brockway) and all of I-99 for several hours Monday morning. Both were lifted as of about 1:30 p.m., according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Multiple vehicle crashes closed I-80 westbound in Clearfield County between exits 147 (PA 144, Snow Shoe) and 133 (PA 53, Philipsburg/Kylertown) Monday morning.
The NWS State College’s public information statement said State College received 1.4 inches of snow as of noon Monday. For the rest of the week, the probability for widespread hazardous weather is low, according to the NWS’s hazardous weather outlook.
