Section of I-99 in Centre County closed for about 2 hours after crash involving tractor-trailer

A section of I-99 north has reopened after it was closed for almost two hours Wednesday afternoon due to a multi-vehicle crash.

Around noon on Wednesday, the section of I-99 north was closed in Centre County in the area of mile marker 76 in Benner Township, between Innovation Park and Shiloh Road, according to a release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

In a post on Facebook, Alpha Fire Company wrote that crews arrived on scene to find a man entrapped in an overturned tractor-trailer. Crews worked for about 40 minutes to free the driver, who was treated by Centre LifeLink EMS and transported to a hospital with “moderate, but non-life threatening injuries.”

Traffic was directed to use the “green detour,” which takes drivers from U.S. Route 322 west to state Route 26 north before returning to I-99 north, PennDOT’s release stated. Drivers were asked to avoid this section of I-99, with traffic backups reported as of 12:30 p.m.

The tractor-trailer was hauling steel plates when it crashed, according to Alpha Fire Company.
