COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to decrease in Centre County.

During the week Feb. 17-23, there were 274 cases. That’s 65 fewer than the previous seven days.

As of Feb. 23, there have been a total of 34,611 cases — 30,755 confirmed and 3,856 probable — in the county, along with 85,768 negative tests.

There were two new deaths, reported Feb. 20, to bring the total to 335.

Mount Nittany Medical Center was treating 16 COVID patients on Feb. 23 between ages 48 and 100, according to the dashboard. None were in intensive care or on ventilators, while 10 were fully vaccinated. The number of patients dropped by six from the previous Wednesday.

Cases falling in PA

Statewide, from Feb. 14-20, the daily average number of cases was 2,608. The week before, it was 3,695.

As of Feb. 23, there have been a total of 2,749,536 cases in the state and 6,053,033 negative tests.

There have been 43,002 deaths, 469 of which are new this week.

Hospitalizations are falling statewide, the Health Department said. The number of patients on Feb. 21 was 27% lower than on Feb. 14.

Vaccine rate drops

Centre and its neighboring counties remained in the high level of community transmission, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website showed.

According to the CDC, 69.2% of Centre County’s total population received at least one vaccine dose and 58.9% is fully vaccinated. Of the fully vaccinated population, 50.4% received a booster.

As of Feb. 21, the CDC said, 76.2% of Pennsylvanians 18 and older are fully vaccinated. The number of vaccines given fell by almost 22% across the state (excluding Philadelphia) compared to the previous week.
