Centre Gives returns for its 11th year. A celebration event is new this year
A large fundraising event for Centre County nonprofits kicks off this week and this year it will feature a new, in-person, community celebration.
Centre Gives is a 36-hour online fundraiser from 9 a.m. May 10 to 9 p.m. May 11 for Centre County nonprofits, hosted by the Centre Foundation. During Centre Gives, people can choose from 200 nonprofits to support with a gift of $10 or more at CentreGives.org. Gifts made during this time go further due to $300,000 in stretch pool funding, provided by the Centre Foundation and a donation from the Hamer Foundation, a release states.
The more money a nonprofit raises during the event, the larger the portion of the stretch pool that nonprofit will receive.
Donors can also help organizations compete for more than $40,000 in additional prizes that will be offered throughout the event, the release stated. There will be 14 “Power Hours’‘ when nonprofits can compete to win the prize for that hour. Those prizes will be awarded based on unique donors. Other prizes will be available, as well.
“Due to the stretch pool and prizes, we are able to give back even more to local nonprofits and make a difference for our community,” Molly Kunkel, executive director at Centre Foundation, wrote in a release. “It is because of the generosity from Hamer Foundation and all of our sponsors that Centre Gives has such a meaningful impact in providing this added support.”
In its 11th year, organizers are adding a special celebration. “Centre Gives Fest” will be an in-person celebration during the final four hours of Centre Gives, 5-9 p.m. on May 11 at the MLK Plaza in downtown State College.
The Centre Gives Fest will give the community a chance to celebrate this large fundraising event. There will be music, photo opportunities, giving stations and more.
Centre Gives has raised $12.5 million since 2012 to support local nonprofit organizations ranging from the arts, animals, education, environment, health and social services, and more, according to a press release.
