Which closed restaurant in State College would you reopen? Tell us in this survey
We all know that feeling, it often happens without warning: Loss.
You pull into the parking lot of your favorite local restaurant — maybe a place where you’ve had countless good times and celebrations with friends and family — only to discover it’s closed its doors for good.
The parking lot is empty. The lights are off. A faded sign in the door reads “Sorry, we’re closed.” You drive away, dejected and still hungry.
For too many establishments, the coronavirus pandemic was the final nail in the coffin.
Restaurants cut hours and staff, tried curbside service. Still, the pandemic caused many across the country to shut their doors permanently.
About 90,000 U.S. restaurants and bars had closed as of May 2021, according to the latest data available from the National Restaurant Association, an industry trade group.
In State College, the list includes Home D Pizzeria, which closed permanently in September after 67 years of service. In 2019, it was Mamma Mia’s pizzeria, which relocated to Florida.
Sure, it may have been years since you last sat down at your once-favorite spot, but you still get that craving once in a while.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could bring that restaurant back and dine there again?
