The Centre Daily Times’ new dynamic eEdition to launch Wednesday. Here’s what to know
Last month, we announced several changes that at the time felt far off. But here we are, ready and excited to launch a dynamic eEdition that you’ll see in your inbox starting Wednesday.
I’m going to tell you more about what to expect, but let’s knock out another “W” first: Why? As media organizations like the Centre Daily Times continue a digital transformation, it’s no secret that print deadlines have gotten earlier. A story about a major fire in Bellefonte was posted to our website in the late hours of Friday, Dec. 30, soon after the reporter got on scene and began sharing updates on Twitter. But that story didn’t appear in print until Sunday, Jan. 1, an example of a print-digital gap we face often.
The dynamic eEdition that launches on Wednesday will help fill that gap. It adds to our daily eEdition — the digital replica of our print newspaper — with the latest news and sports. If it had existed on Dec. 30, the story and photos from the Bellefonte fire would have been there the next morning. If a game ends at 10 p.m., readers will be able to find that coverage there too.
Late-breaking news and sports will also be on our website and social media channels, but the dynamic eEdition presents them in a curated format that’s similar to a newspaper, which some readers prefer.
We’ll publish the dynamic eEdition Wednesday through Sunday mornings, though we can also add Monday and Tuesday editions as late news warrants. Readers should expect some duplication – a story in the dynamic edition one day may be part of the next day’s regular eEdition (and print paper). We think it’s worth it to be able to bring you the latest news as soon as we can, rather than an eEdition that can lag behind.
The dynamic eEdition will come out each morning with the regular daily eEdition, which includes dozens of Extra Extra pages with national news, business and sports content. To sign up to receive it in your inbox (at no cost to subscribers), visit centredaily.com/activate. If you already receive the eEdition, you don’t need to take any additional steps to start getting the dynamic. You can also access the eEdition through CentreDaily.com.
This new feature is one more way to reach our readers with local news. Here’s a review of ways you can follow all the work of our expanding staff of Centre County-based journalists.
CentreDaily.com and the CDT app: Our website and app are the places to go for the most up-to-date news. Check back throughout the day for the latest news and updates. Subscribers have access to a subscriber-only section of featured content. Digital subscriptions are available at account.centredaily.com/subscribe.
Dynamic eEdition: This is the digital replica of our print edition, packaged with late-breaking news and sports stories that we completed the previous day and night, in a newspaper-style digital format. The dynamic edition publishes Wednesday-Sunday mornings, and the regular edition comes out daily.
Print: The CDT’s traditional printed newspaper publishes Monday-Friday, with a weekend edition that will publish Saturday mornings. This is a change that takes effect Feb. 11 — our weekend edition is currently published Sunday mornings. The weekend edition will include the same features — comics, Good Life and Business sections, local news, sports, opinion and more. Print-digital combo subscriptions are available at account.centredaily.com/subscribe.
Facebook/Twitter/Instagram: Follow the CDT’s social media accounts to receive links to our stories and others from across the McClatchy network.
YouTube: Subscribe to the CDT’s YouTube channel to watch videos by category — community, Penn State football, Penn State wrestling and more.
Newsletters: Sign up to receive the latest headlines every morning, along with breaking news alerts straight to your inbox. There are also newsletters catered to specific audiences, including a high school sports digest, Penn State sports newsletter and Bits of Business that brings you the latest on openings and closings.
News alerts: To receive immediate notifications on breaking news to your phone or computer, opt in for push alerts through the CDT app and enable notifications in your web browser.
Wherever and however you read the CDT, thank you for doing so and thank you for supporting local journalism.
