Motorists who travel Interstate 99 in Centre County should plan for delays during “peak traffic” hours starting next week.

Beginning Monday eastbound and westbound traffic between Port Matilda and Grays Woods (mile markers 63-67) will be impacted by a road project, the state Department of Transportation said in a release. Work to clean and reseal joints along more than seven and a half miles of I-99 in Huston and Worth townships will extend the life of the concrete roadway, the release states.

Long-term single lane closures will occur as part of the traffic control. Drivers should anticipate delays and build extra time into their travel schedules, PennDOT urged in the release. The project is expected to be completed in late November, although work is weather dependent.

All lanes will reopen at the end of the day Oct. 12, Oct. 26, Nov. 9 and Nov. 16 to avoid impacting traffic heading to any of Penn State’s remaining home football games, PennDOT said.

Swank Construction Company of New Kensington is the contractor for this $969,000 job.
