Monthslong bridge project on US Route 322 near State College to start Monday. What to know
A bridge restoration project on U.S. Route 322 within College Township is expected to reduce traffic to one lane eastbound and one lane westbound for nearly a five-month stretch starting Monday, according to PennDOT.
The two bridges, part of U.S. Route 322, span Warner Boulevard and Spring Creek near the Oak Hall interchange, i.e. the Oak Hall/Lemont and Oak Hall/Boalsburg exits. Starting Monday, the contractor — George S. Hann & Son, Inc. of Fort Littleton — will close the right lane on both the eastbound and westbound lanes while leaving the left lane open.
Once repairs are complete there, the contractor will switch lanes by closing the left and then opening the right. The work is expected to be finished by the end of August, an estimate dependent on the weather.
According to PennDOT, the two State College area bridges are currently rated to be in “fair” condition. By rehabilitating them — pouring new concrete decking, joint sealing, repairing the bridge railing, paving the approaches, etc. — their condition should rise to “good,” extending their service life.
The repairs are part of a $2 million project, which included a third bridge along University Drive that was repaired last year.
