Centre County wildfire near Snow Shoe engulfs at least 50 acres. What we know
Multiple fire companies on Thursday afternoon responded to a Centre County wildfire that’s engulfed at least 50 acres near Snow Shoe, according to public emergency services information.
Askey Road in Burnside Township has since been closed, officials said.
According to a social media post by Snow Shoe Fire Company, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has helped by backburning — or intentionally setting controlled fires ahead of the main fire — to prevent further spread. Snow Shoe also reported that a plane began dropping water on the wildfire shortly after 3 p.m.
It wasn’t immediately known just how many fire departments were called to the fire in the 200 block of Pine Glen Road or where the status of the fire currently stands. But Snow Shoe Fire Company posted, at about 3:15 p.m., that flames were as high as 10 feet.
“We are fighting a wildfire with many other companies right now and it’s intense,” Pine Glen Fire Company wrote 30 minutes later, adding it could use a delivery of bottled water to 1003 Pine Glen Road.
