Helping hands: CenClear to host ‘Superheroes for Safety’ carnivals this month
On any given day, a child’s sense of safety can come from something simple: a trusted adult, a kind interaction, or a moment of connection. During April, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, those small moments take center stage as communities work together to support children and families in meaningful ways.
At CenClear, one of those moments might look like a child laughing while playing a game, a parent learning about a helpful resource, or a first responder kneeling down to talk with a curious young “superhero.” These are the moments that inspired this year’s Child Abuse Prevention Carnivals, themed “Superheroes for Safety.”
Held throughout April, these free, family-friendly events are designed to be welcoming, fun and full of connection. Families can enjoy hands-on activities, games, light refreshments and friendly faces while discovering the many resources and support available in their community. The carnivals provide an opportunity for families to explore services, meet local agencies, and connect with first responders in a relaxed, fun environment.
This year’s events will take place on April 11 in Bigler, April 21 in Pleasant Gap and April 28 in St. Marys. Each location offers a safe, indoor space where families can spend time together, have fun, and meet neighbors who care about the well-being of children.
Behind the scenes, these events are made possible by people who care deeply about children and families. Local agencies, organizations and everyday community members all play a role in creating a space where families feel supported, valued and welcomed.
That spirit of generosity continues to grow. Recently, Wegmans contributed to support the carnival efforts, helping to make these events possible. Their gift is a reminder that even small acts of giving can have a big impact when it comes to strengthening families and building community connections.
Child abuse prevention isn’t the responsibility of one person or one organization. It belongs to all of us. It’s found in the connections we build, the support we offer, and the time we take to show up for one another.
Most importantly, these events are for families. They are a chance to come together, enjoy a day of fun, and feel part of a caring community. Whether it’s a child proudly showing off a craft, a parent making a new connection, or a neighbor simply stopping by, each moment helps build something stronger.
This April, CenClear invites families to celebrate the everyday superheroes who make our communities safer, one connection at a time. To become involved, contact Mason Strouse at CenClear by calling 814-762-4010 or emailing mstrouse@cenclear.org.
