When do Centre County pools open? Residents will have to wait despite warming PA weather
Summer weather is finally here in Centre County, but you will have to wait a few weeks to enjoy area pools.
Welch Community Pool in State College and Park Forest Community Pool in Patton Township open for the season at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23. Both will be open for adult swim and toddler time from 10 a.m. to noon on weekends and noon to 1 p.m. on weekdays, while the general public is welcome from noon to 8 p.m. on weekends and 1 to 8 p.m. on weekdays.
The Mountain Top Area Pool in Snow Shoe is “shooting for June 5 or 6,” said pool association president Jennifer Nastase. It’s “a little bit colder” in Snow Shoe, she added.
Mountain Top Area Pool’s regular hours are noon to 6 p.m., and Nastase said it will have splash hops — music, food and night swimming — on some Fridays and Saturdays starting at 6:30 p.m.
Centre County’s other two pools remain closed amid financial struggles.
Kepler Pool in Bellefonte, closed in 2020 due to mechanical issues, is not expected to reopen until 2027. The Millheim Pool, closed since last year, has not reopened — a fundraiser for repairs with a $100,000 goal has raised $31,000.
