A new Mount Nittany Health facility hopes to help expand local access to long-sought specialized care.

The health network is actively working to open a new dermatology facility at 2188 Sandy Drive off of Science Park Road in Ferguson Township, a spokesperson confirmed this week. Mount Nittany Health purchased the property, formerly owned by State College Family Medicine, for $2.3 million in 2025.

Following renovations, the repurposed facility will help Mount Nittany Health expand its medical and surgical dermatology services, the health network said. A growing team of at least four dermatology providers, as well as a dedicated Mohs surgeon, will lead the facility and oversee its offerings, including specialized skin cancer treatments, medical Botox and telemedicine options.

“This service expansion is intended to significantly reduce patient wait times, improve access to timely appointments and offer advanced services closer to home in a modern, patient-centered environment,” a Mount Nittany Health spokesperson wrote in a statement.

The health network anticipates opening its new dermatology facility this fall. Additional details, including a full project timeline, are expected as work continues this summer.

The new dermatology facility marks the latest expansion for Mount Nittany Health, whose State College medical center stands as one of only two hospitals in Centre County.

A 10-floor, 300,00-square-foot patient tower at Mount Nittany Medical Center is on track to open later this year after breaking ground in 2023. The $350 million expansion won’t increase the hospital’s bed count, but its 168 private patient rooms will allow the health network to convert other double rooms into private spaces.

Mount Nittany Health opened a $90 million, 125,000-square-foot outpatient center near Toftrees in September 2024, allowing the health network to bring together nine relocated and two new practices. Its first walk-in clinic opened in May 2024 at 2051 S. Atherton St.

Mount Nittany Health also spent $15.1 million in July 2024 to purchase 1700 Old Gatesburg Road in Ferguson Township and another $6.28 million in December 2024 to acquire 15.7 acres near the booming Benner Pike corridor.

Centre County’s second hospital opened in 2024 after Penn Highlands constructed a $90 million, 112,00-square-foot facility along Colonnade Boulevard in State College. Geisinger, meanwhile, spent $15.5 million to construct a new medical clinic near Bellefonte and another $12 million to expand at Grays Woods.
