Residents displaced after three-alarm fire in Milesburg apartment building
Residents of a Milesburg apartment building were displaced after a three-alarm fire that heavily damaged the structure late Thursday night.
The Citizens Hook & Ladder fire company was dispatched to the building in the 300 block of Front Street at 11:13 p.m. after neighbors called to report flames, Assistant Chief Jonathan McClure said.
“When our chief arrived, the entire front of the structure was fully involved; it was just the porch that was involved at that point,” McClure said. “It did enter into the structure, but we able to get it extinguished pretty quickly.”
The building has four apartments with fire breaks between them, McClure said. For one of those apartments, the only egress was through the front where the fire was located. Two people in that apartment escaped through the window.
After firefighters knocked down the majority of the fire load, McClure said they conducted a search of the structure and confirmed no one was inside.
No injuries were reported, the assistant chief said.
While the building is heavily damaged, McClure said it’s rebuildable, with smoke and water damage to all units. A total of eight residents were displaced, he said.
Undine, Logan, Pine Glen, Alpha, Pleasant Gap and Howard fire companies were among those also called to the scene. Crews were on-site through early Friday morning.
