Spring Township lifts boil water advisory
The Spring Township Water Authority lifted its boil water advisory Friday.
The boil water order was in effect for residents since Monday due to increased risk of microbial contamination.
“We are pleased to report that the problem has been corrected and that it is no longer necessary to boil your water,” the authority said in a release.
The authority said its distribution system experienced a loss of positive water pressure Sunday.
“A loss of positive water pressure is a signal of the existence of conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system through back-flow by back-pressure or back-siphonage,” the authority said. “As a result, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms.”
A pump issue caused the water in the authority’s tanks to drop, township secretary Molly Baird said Monday. The authority refilled them by purchasing water from Bellefonte.
R.W. Bird Trucking, of Pleasant Gap, hauled the water, but the company is not a Department of Environmental Protection-permitted hauler, which is why the township issued the boil water notice.
Once the tanks were filled and pumping again, water samples had to be taken for two consecutive days before the notice could be lifted.
Spring Township Manager Bill MacMath said the pump is scheduled to be replaced next week.
