Janet Santostefano has been named president and publisher of the Centre Daily Times, McClatchy announced Wednesday.
Santostefano, 35, will assume her new duties immediately. She previously served as the CDT’s vice president of advertising and marketing.
“The opportunities in our industry energize Janet,” said Pat Talamantes, president and chief executive officer of McClatchy, parent company of the CDT. “I am confident she will elevate the Centre Daily Times’ mission of high quality, community service journalism.”
Santostefano, a Pennsylvania native, has been VP of advertising and marketing since 2014. Previously, she was the advertising and marketing director and sales manager. She joined the CDT in 2007 as an advertising account executive.

“As we continue to transform the newsroom and advertising in a digital world, I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity to lead such an incredible team of innovative and forward-thinking people,” Santostefano said. “I will continue to champion a digital-first mentality and will look for new ways to improve our reader and advertiser experiences and engagement.”
Santostefano replaces Debra Leithauser, who joined McClatchy’s Idaho Statesman in Boise, Idaho, as president and publisher last November.
"Janet is a perfect fit for the publisher role,” Leithauser said. “She knows and cares deeply about the community and the university. Her work ethic is second to none and she understands the transformative times journalism is facing.”
Santostefano is a graduate of Penn State, a 2011 Leadership Centre County graduate and member of the Downtown State College Rotary Club. She and her husband Mike live in Pleasant Gap with their two children, Riley and Jack.
