Mobile home fire claims life of local man

A mobile home fire early Sunday morning claimed the life of a Walker Township man.

Gregory W. Smith, originally from Ninety-six, S.C., died as a result of smoke inhalation in a mobile home fire near the Centre-Clinton county line, according to Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers.

He was 54.

Emergency crews were called at about 6 a.m. to the scene of a “well-involved” mobile home fire at 111 Black Walnut Road, according to dispatch.

There were two other people in the home at the time of the fire, whom Sayers says escaped uninjured.

Fire crews from Walker Township, Bellefonte Undine and Pleasant Gap responded to the scene, as well as EMS and fire crews from Clinton County.

The fire is under investigation by state police at Rockview and the fire marshal.
