Here’s what’s closed Wednesday as Centre County is hit with winter weather
With a snow squall warning in effect Wednesday morning, at least one Centre County school has canceled class for the day.
After canceling all afterschool activities Tuesday evening, Bald Eagle Area School District decided to close Wednesday.
The National Weather Service in State College issued a snow squall warning for southwestern Centre County and north central Mifflin County until 9:15 a.m.
Snow squalls, according to the NWS, are intense but limited duration periods of moderate to heavy snowfall, accompanied by gusty surface winds resulting in reduced visibility and whiteout conditions.
Highways affected by the warning include state Route 220 from Port Matilda to State College, Alternate Route 220 near near Port Matilda, U.S. Route 322 from north of Port Matilda to Seven Mountains, state Route 26 from Pine Grove Mills to Pleasant Gap, state Road 45 from Pine Grove Mills to Old Fort.
Snow showers are expected between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, and can be heavy at times, according to the NWS. A high temperature of near 31 degrees is expected, and winds gusts of up to 37 mph.
