A new ‘touchless’ way to buy used cars is coming to State College

State College is one of 100 new markets that Carvana plans to expand into, the entirely online used car retailer announced Thursday.

The e-commerce platform believes the COVID-19 pandemic “fundamentally changes” the way people shop for vehicles and may prompt some to turn away from public transportation and ride-sharing services.

“We know that many consumers are spending more time at home, and balancing that with the need to keep moving. For many, that includes the need to buy or sell a car, and often their options are limited,” Carvana founder and CEO Ernie Garcia said in a statement. “That’s why we are bringing as-soon-as-next-day touchless home delivery to even more consumers and launching 100 markets.”

It was not clear when or where the business plans to expand into Happy Valley.

But any expansion is expected to allow customers to purchase a car online and have it delivered to their driveway as soon as the next day. The Phoenix-based company also offers a seven-day return policy.

Other new locations in Pennsylvania include Bloomsburg, Chambersburg, East Stroudsburg, Gettysburg, Johnstown, Lebanon and Williamsport.

Pennsylvania is tied with Georgia, Indiana and Michigan for the most new locations.
