160th Clearfield County Fair canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic

Clearfield on Friday joined the list of central Pennsylvania county fairs to cancel this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main factor in the decision, fair organizers wrote in a Facebook post, was the limit on crowds of no more than 250 individuals in the green phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration’s reopening plan.

“We have waited as long as possible to see if this order would be amended or lifted,” the statement read. “Unfortunately, as of today, it has not and does not appear that any changes will be made in the near future. This does not allow the Clearfield County Fair and Park Board to produce and prepare for the fair as scheduled. We look forward to events throughout the year and coming back together to build more memories at next year’s fair, Aug. 1-7, 2021.”

The Clearfield County Fair’s cancellation deals another blow to the summer fair circuit in central Pennsylvania. Centre County’s Grange Encampment and Fair, Pennsylvania’s largest fair in terms of acreage, and county fairs in Huntingdon, Clinton, Cambria, Indiana, Bedford and Jefferson counties, among others across the state, have also been canceled. But as of Friday, Juniata County is still planning to hold its fair in September.

This year would have been the 160th edition of the Clearfield County Fair.
