Boil water advisory issued for Stormstown area after major water main break
The Upper Halfmoon Water Company has been advised by the state Department of Environmental Protection to issue a precautionary boil water advisory after a major break in the water main Thursday afternoon.
The water main break was detected on Lutz Lane early Thursday afternoon, Rick Day, president of the water company, said, and resulted in a loss of system pressure. The DEP will conduct testing of the water over a 24-48-hour period to ensure the loss of pressure didn’t allow contaminants to enter the system.
As of 4 p.m. Friday, no contaminants had been detected.
Day expects the advisory to be lifted by Saturday, but encourages customers to keep checking https://upperhalfmoonwater.com for updates.
Until then, customers are advised to use only bottled or boiled water for drinking, cooking, making ice, washing dishes and brushing teeth. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends bringing water to a rolling boil for a minute, then letting it cool down before use.
Additional tips and recommendations for staying safe during a boil water advisory can be found at cdc.gov and www.americanwater.com.
The Upper Halfmoon Water Company is a nonprofit that serves about 600 homes in the Stormstown area of Halfmoon Township.
