A Clearfield County man died Monday at a construction site in Spring Township, the police department’s top administrator said.

The 27-year-old was operating an excavator about 1 p.m. to dig trenches for sewer lines at a new housing development along the 500 block of Rolling Ridge Drive, Chief Adam Salyards said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, said Salyards, who called the incident an “industrial accident.” The Centre County Coroner’s Office was not able to immediately comment.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is “aware of this incident and looking into it,” a spokesperson wrote in an email.

West Penn Power, Bellefonte EMS, Mount Nittany Medical Center EMS, the Logan Fire Company and the Undine Fire Company also responded.
