The Centre Area Transportation Authority is accepting public comment on proposed service changes that would take effect in the fall.

Among the changes to begin Aug. 20 is the addition of two connector bus routes. The Atherton Street Connector would provide service from Colonnade Boulevard to Geisinger Scenery Park via Atherton, downtown State College and South Pugh Street. The College Avenue Connector would provide service between the Nittany Mall and the CATA office via College Avenue.

Two new CATAGo zones — in the Park Forest/Science Park areas and Pine Grove Mills/Westerly Parkway areas — are also proposed.

The changes will only take effect if CATA is able to hire enough bus operators to provide the new services, according to a news release. The transit service cited “severe staffing shortages” last fall when it announced the temporary suspension of bus routes.

A complete list of proposed changes is available at catabus.com/proposed-fall-service.

CATA will hold a public hearing on the changes from 4:30-6:30 p.m. April 14 in the Downsbrough Community Room at Schlow Centre Region Library. Comments can also be submitted on the CATA website, by emailing comments@catabus.com or by calling 814-238-CATA during business hours.
