Boalsburg Fire Company’s Memorial Day Celebration is back. Here’s what to know

Boalsburg Fire Company is bringing back its Memorial Day celebration, with a parade, carnival and more.

Starting Thursday, the carnival will be open at the Boalsburg Fire Station, with activities, food and rides.

Greg Alters, Boalsburg Fire Company’s assistant chief, said proceeds from the carnival help to fund the department. In previous years, the company has raised anywhere from $20,000 to $24,000.

“It’s a good community,” Alters said. “It’s something that everybody kind of looks forward to showing up and coming to and kind of a reunion of sorts.”

Carnival hours are:

  • Thursday, 6-10 p.m.

  • Friday, 6-10 p.m.

  • Saturday, end of parade to 10 p.m.

  • Sunday 2-6 p.m.

  • Monday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Thursday and Sunday are wristband days, where visitors can buy $20 wristbands for unlimited rides.

The parade will be on Saturday, with participants lining up at 3 p.m. and the parade starting at 5 p.m. There is no required pre-registration for parade participants.

For Alters, the parade is one of the best parts of the weekend celebration.

“It’s nice to see everybody lining the streets and come out the support the whole fire company,” Alters said. “The whole event is nice because we get to see people that we don’t see on a normal basis and it brings out a lot of people.”

There will be awards for several parade categories, such as farthest traveled fire apparatus, oldest motorized fire apparatus and best appearing rescue.

The parade will begin on West Pine Street, continue on East Pine Street, turn right onto Boal Avenue, then right onto East Main Street to West Main Street and back to Wagner Street.

Boalsburg’s A Day in Town returns on Monday with the Memorial Day Run at 8:30 a.m. at Blue Spring Park, vendors on Church and Main streets, musical performances as well as the walk to the cemetery at 5:45 p.m.
