State College native Kendra Westerhaus saw her “Jeopardy!” run come to an end on Wednesday’s episode.

She found some $2,000 clues late in the game to keep within shouting distance, but her correct Final Jeopardy response wasn’t enough to get the win on her third appearance.

Westerhaus had won $47,201 over the previous two days. In a change from her past episodes, she didn’t find any Daily Doubles on Wednesday. She was in third place after the Jeopardy and Double Jeopardy rounds.

After the first round, Westerhaus had $2,800, while data scientist Stephen Webb had $5,600 and fast-food worker/standup comedian Jason Carpenter had $6,400.

Westerhaus headed into Final Jeopardy with $10,800, trailing Webb’s score of $25,800 and Carpenter’s $19,200.

The Final Jeopardy clue, in the category U.S. Military, was: Losses over Asia in the 1960s led to the establishment of the program known as this at a San Diego naval base in 1969.

Westerhaus correctly answered Top Gun and bet $2,401, which brought her score to $13,201. Carpenter was incorrect and bet all but $1, leaving the game in Webb’s hands. Webb gave the correct response and bet $12,601, earning a $38,401 payday and the title of “Jeopardy!” champion.

Westerhaus, a 2000 State College Area High School graduate who is now a psychologist in Pocatello, Idaho, previously told the CDT that she had been trying for years to get on “Jeopardy!” and getting called to come to California to tape the show “was a dream come true.”
