3 injured, taken to hospitals after crash in Centre County, police say
Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash as twilight ended Wednesday in Ferguson Township, the police department’s chief said Thursday.
Two drivers collided about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of West Whitehall Road and South Nixon Road, township police Chief John Petrick said. Both were driving a station wagon, one a Kia and the other a Hyundai.
The intersection is controlled by two stop signs. Sunset was 7:25 p.m.
One person was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Altoona. Two others were transported by Centre LifeLink EMS to Mount Nittany Medical Center. Their injuries, Petrick said, are not life-threatening.
Petrick declined to release their ages, genders or where they are from. He also declined to say if alcohol, drug, speeding or fatigue was believed to be a factor; the investigation is ongoing.
The Alpha Fire Company, Patton Township and State College police assisted. A portion of the two roads were temporarily closed; Petrick said he did not immediately know for how long.
No charges have been filed.
There were 404 crashes at intersections during the previous decade in Ferguson Township, the most recently available data from the state Department of Transportation showed. That was the third most among municipalities in Centre County, trailing State College and Patton Township.
