Happy Valley Restaurant Week is back this year, spanning two weekends to provide more dining opportunities for restaurants and customers.

The 10-day event showcases local restaurants around Centre County with participating locations creating limited edition menu items for the event. More than 20 restaurants are participating so far this year, organizer Maggie Anderson said.

This is the first year the event will span two weekends, from June 16-25, giving people more opportunities to support participating restaurants.

“Maybe people go out once a week, maybe twice a week,” Anderson said. “If you have two weekends in there it gives you a chance to visit those restaurants that are only open on weekends and find other ways to get out and enjoy the special dishes from all the different places.”

Along with the long-term impacts from the pandemic, Anderson said the restaurant industry is also dealing with rising food costs and staff shortages. Happy Valley Restaurant Week aims to help show support for the local restaurants, as well as drive culinary innovation.

“It takes a lot of passion to continue to want to feed people these days,” Anderson said. “So we wanted to make sure we were celebrating that and all the different ways that people locally do that.”

Those who eat at participating restaurants during the event are encouraged to post online with the hashtag #happyvalleyhungry to enter to win a gift card to any of the participating restaurants. This year the Naked Egg Cafe, Robin Hood Brewing Co., Bonfatto’s Italian Market and Corner Cafe and more have joined this year’s lineup.
