A Christmas miracle? Lotto ticket sold in Centre County won jackpot with these numbers
One lucky lottery player in Centre County will celebrate the holidays with a lucrative seasonal bonus after purchasing a jackpot-winning Match 6 Lotto ticket, the Pennsylvania Lottery said Tuesday.
The winning ticket matched all six winning numbers in Monday’s Match 6 Lotto drawing — 2, 11, 16, 18, 38, and 41 — to win the $1 million grand prize. The Uni-Mart at 1200 S. Atherton St. in State College will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, lottery officials said.
Match 6 Lotto players have up to one year from drawing dates to claim prizes. The Pennsylvania Lottery recommends players sign the backs of their tickets immediately before claiming prizes. Winners can call 1-800-692-7481 or visit palottery.com to inquire about filing a claim.
Match 6 Lotto players are tasked with choosing six numbers between one and 49 before the computer system randomly selects an additional two sets of six numbers, totaling three lines of six numbers each (or 18 numbers total). According to the game’s rules, players can win up to four times on each ticket, whether through each of ticket’s lines (considered “base play”) or by combining all 18 numbers (considered “combined play”). Each ticket costs $2.
The game’s jackpot prize begins at $500,000 and grows until a player correctly picks all six winning numbers. All Match 6 Lotto prize payments, including the jackpot, are issued as one-time cash payments.
According to the game’s rules, the odds of correctly selecting all six numbers in base play to win a jackpot are about 1 in 4.66 million. There’s roughly a 1 in 597,000 chance of winning the top combined play prize of $2,500 for picking at least 10 of the 18 numbers on a ticket.
The overall odds of winning any prize on a Match 6 Lotto ticket are about 1 in 5.9, according to lottery estimates. Nearly 43,000 other tickets sold for Dec. 23’s drawing won a prize.
This week’s Match 6 jackpot winner marks the second notable lottery prize sold in Centre County over the past few weeks. Another lucky State College player purchased a Powerball ticket worth roughly $100,000 as part of Dec. 7’s drawing.
Lottery players in Pennsylvania can take several steps to limit their gambling. The state lottery recommends setting budgets online, scheduling cool-off periods or self-excluding from online games, among other strategies.
