One person died and several others were transported to the hospital after a multi-vehicle crash Monday morning on U.S. Route 322 in Centre County.

State College police responded to a crash in the 5700 block of the Mount Nittany Expressway (U.S. Route 322) just before 6:30 a.m. According to a preliminary investigation, a Chevrolet truck driven by a 36-year-old man was traveling westbound and crossed into the highway’s eastbound lane, where it collided with a tractor trailer.

Following the initial collision, the tractor trailer crossed into the westbound lane and struck two other vehicles, according to a press release.

The driver of the Chevrolet truck was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the Centre County Coroner’s Office confirmed. The man’s identity has not been released.

The driver of the tractor trailer and the drivers of the two other vehicles involved were also transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College police wrote. They were all treated and released.

Boalsburg Fire Department, Centre LifeLink EMS, the Centre County Accident Reconstruction Team and the coroner’s office were among those that responded to assist State College police.

A portion of U.S. Route 322 — between state Route 45 and the Oak Hall/Lemont exit, was closed for about five hours Monday morning.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact State College police at 814-234-7150.
