Centre County is proud to be home to one of the most successful recycling programs in the country. While much of that success is due to the leadership, vision and dedication of the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority team, it’s truly the commitment of our residents, schools and businesses that sets us apart.

As we reflect on 2024, we want to highlight some key achievements and thank you for doing your part to make recycling a priority. CCRRA’s full 2024 Annual Activity Report is available at centrecountyrecycles.org.

Recycling collection

Our dedicated recycling collections crew serves over 28,000 homes each week. In addition, they provide service to nearly 800 businesses and maintain hundreds of community recycling drop-off containers. Thanks to your efforts, Centre County recycled 10,464 tons of material in 2024!

Recycling processing facility

After collection, all recyclable materials are delivered to our processing facility. There, our skilled team hand-sorts the items to remove any contaminants and prepare the materials for market — where they are used as feedstock for new products.

Specialty recycling

Beyond standard recyclables, CCRRA also accepts a wide variety of specialty items, including scrap metal, tires, wood, vinyl siding, electronics, rechargeable batteries and CFL bulbs. These efforts help divert even more material from the landfill. Check our website or contact us for drop-off recycling information of these items.

Office & administration

Our office and administrative staff handle thousands of calls each year from residents with questions, suggestions or concerns. Whether it’s asking about recycling hours or how to dispose of a specific item, they’re always ready to help.

Education

Our Education Coordinator works year-round to educate the community about recycling. From on-site tours and off-site presentations, to printed materials and social media campaigns, we’re committed to keeping residents informed and engaged.

Community events

We proudly host a variety of community events, including:

  • The annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event each spring

  • An annual Tire Recycling Day

  • Multiple paper shredding events

  • Seasonal clean-up and beautification days

These events give residents a safe and convenient way to dispose of unwanted materials and help keep Centre County clean and green.

Transfer Station

In addition to recycling, CCRRA operates a Transfer Station, where 111,068 tons of trash were processed in 2024. Our hardworking team ensures all county trash is handled responsibly and prepared for landfill transport each day.

Once again, thank you, Centre County residents, for your continued dedication to recycling. Your efforts make a lasting impact on our community and our environment.
