Each day our Transfer Station processes over 400 tons of trash from Centre County residents. There are many methods to reduce the amount of trash coming into the Transfer Station and one easy way is utilizing our many drop-off recycling programs. In Centre County, residents have access to numerous drop-off recycling options and locations, and I have listed and detailed each below.

County recycling drop-off locations

The Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority (CCRRA) offers over 125 drop-off recycling containers located throughout the county. These sites accept a wide range of materials, including plastic, metal, glass, mixed paper and corrugated cardboard. Six of the locations also feature a recycling container for miscellaneous plastics. These are items such as yogurt containers, margarine tubs and plastic food storage containers. A comprehensive list of locations and acceptable materials can be found at www.centrecountyrecycles.org.

The CCRRA also accepts a variety of items for recycling at our facility. The following items can be brought to the Transfer Station for recycling:

Electronics

CCRRA accepts electronics like computers, televisions, desktop printers, desktop copiers, cellphones, battery backups, cables, wiring, cellphones and more. If you are unsure if your item is acceptable to recycle, give our office a call or check the list on our website.

Scrap metal & appliances

Residents can recycle items such as air conditioners, clothes washing and drying machines, dish washers, metal pots and pans, water heaters, refrigerators and freezers, stoves, ovens, microwaves, helium tanks and more at the CCRRA Transfer Station. Drop off is free during regular operating hours.

Wood scrap

CCRRA accepts wood for recycling during operating hours at the price of $45/ton ($10 minimum charge). The following wood is acceptable: clean wood and timber, untreated/unpainted wood, wood pallets, yard trim/brush, tree stumps no larger than 24” in diameter and empty cable spools. Wood is sent to State College Borough to be made into mulch.

Tires

The CCRRA accepts tires for recycling. Residents delivering personal automotive and small truck tires from their vehicles will be accepted at the following rates: $84 per ton/$25 minimum. Commercial entities and truck load quantities will be accepted at the following rates: $150 per ton/$25 minimum. Oversized tires (44 inches in diameter or larger) are charged $30 per tire plus per ton disposal fee. Dirty tires are charged $350 per ton/$25 minimum.

Vinyl siding

Vinyl siding is accepted for recycling at the price of $20/ton ($10 minimum charge).

We will accept the following for recycling: vinyl siding, corner posts and J Channel.
