  • Residents can give feedback before noon Wednesday via email or phone

CATA will hold a public hearing next week to discuss its proposed service changes, which includes the discontinuation of the Bellefonte/Benner B-Line, the expansion of its on-demand transportation service, increased Red Link frequency and a 30-cent fare increase.

The hearing will be held from 5-7 p.m. June 23 in the Downsborough Community Room at the Schlow Centre Region Library in downtown State College. There will also be a Zoom link provided on CATA’s website.

Below are the proposed service changes. If approved, they will go into effect on Aug. 25.

  • All community service routes and CATAGo rides will have an increased fare of $2.50, up from $2.20. Cash, tokens, transfers and passes will all still be acceptable forms of payment.
  • The Bellefonte/Benner B-Line will expire June 30 after Bellefonte Borough’s Transportation Task Force voted to end their partnership with CATA in May. To help replace the B-Line, Centre County Transportation Services will begin offering a ride-share service in the Bellefonte Borough on July 1. Rides must be reserved by 2 p.m. on the day of transportation. The standard fare will be $5; individuals with disabilities or who are receiving medical assistance will pay $4.25, and residents 60 and older will ride free.
  • CATAGo, CATA’s on-demand transportation service, will expand to reach the outer lines of College, Ferguson and Harris townships. The updated service map can be found on CATA’s website.
  • The Red Link, one of CATA’s free on-campus buses, will increase its frequency to every 12 minutes on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The community can submit comments on the proposed changes by emailing comments@catabus.com or via CATA’s Customer Service Center at 814-238-2282 before noon on Wednesday.
