Hundreds of State College area residents lost power again as heat wave continues

A day after power outages affected thousands in the State College area, another round of outages was reported Tuesday evening as a heat wave continues in Pennsylvania.

Customers lost power around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, and at about 7:40 p.m., just more than 2,000 West Penn Power customers were without power, according to the utility company’s website. Most of those affected were in Ferguson Township (1,523 customers) and State College Borough (480).

By 8 p.m., power was restored to those areas, earlier than the 10 p.m. estimated restoration time.

Centre County remains under a heat advisory through 8 p.m. Wednesday, with heat index values between 100-104 degrees Fahrenheit forecast.

“In addition to the daytime heat, overnight low temperatures will also be very warm and oppressively muggy,” the advisory states.

On Monday, 5,000 West Penn Power customers lost power around 3 p.m. Power was restored to most areas within several hours.
