Pennsylvania experiencing statewide 911 outage, but Centre County is not affected
Pennsylvania is experiencing a statewide intermittent 911 outage, the state’s emergency management agency said in an alert Friday afternoon, but Centre County 911 said the emergency number should still work.
PEMA said those experiencing issues contacting 911 should call their local 911 Center on its non-emergency line. For Centre County, that number is 1-800-479-0050.
In a Facebook post, Centre County 911 said in those in Centre County “can still call 9-1-1 in an emergency, as our phone system has rerouted calls to a different line to ensure we can receive them.” But if anyone is having trouble getting through, they should call the non-emergency line.
Centre County 911 urged people not to call 911 as a test to see if it works when there’s not an emergency.
“We have received an uptick in calls from the public testing their phones, which is tying up our dispatchers,” the center wrote on Facebook.
It’s currently unclear when the statewide outage will be resolved or what caused it.
