Healthy relationships: Centre Safe seeks volunteers as 50th anniversary year continues

So where exactly has summer gone? It feels like last time I blinked my family and I were making plans for all the adventures we wanted to take over the summer — camping, amusement parks, hikes, and solid family time. Now that I have blinked, it is time for back-to-school shopping. I have to say, my family and I did end up having some incredibly fun adventures, but this reminds me that it is OK to not fit timelines — we can have our adventures whenever we like.

I continue working at just being present in the moment. I do not want to rush my boys growing up or even looking ahead to school being back in session. Let us keep having fun this summer!

At Centre Safe there are a variety of positive things coming up, so a bit of planning is not so bad.

Volunteer class begins Sept. 9

Are you looking to make a meaningful difference in the community? Look no further because Centre Safe is looking for additional volunteers. Our volunteer counselor/advocates support our work by answering hotline calls, providing empowerment counseling, and advocating for clients in times of crisis. If you are interested in getting involved, visit our website to download our volunteer application or reach out to our volunteer coordinator, Frankie, at furrutiasmith@centresafe.org. Due to the nature of this work, we provide a training course for volunteers to learn all they need to know to successfully empower others.

Class runs Sept. 9-Dec. 4 (each Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m.)

Annual fundraising campaign in full swing

Centre Safe is in its annual fundraising campaign, working to raise $10,000 to support victims and survivors across Centre County. Did you know on average Centre Safe supports more than 900 victims and survivors of domestic violence just in Centre County? We support more than 200 victims and survivors of sexual violence and more than 200 individuals and families needing emergency shelter and housing. We receive approximately 2,000 calls to our hotline every year, so the reach of Centre Safe is wide and important to so many people.

No matter what amount you can give, know those funds directly support our clients.

Centre Safe turns the big 50 in 2025 — you can honor five decades of crucial and impactful work by contributing in ways you are comfortable. You are welcome to mail a check made payable to Centre Safe with “annual campaign” on the memo line to 140 W. Nittany Ave., State College, PA 16801. You can also donate online at www.centresafe.org and click on get involved, make a donation.

Thank you so much for your amazing support and let us keep working together to support those in our communities needing to know people still care.
