Centre County man dead after getting entangled in farm equipment
A Centre County man died Thursday after he became entangled in a farm machine.
Levi Glick, 23, of Marion Township, died about 3:05 p.m. Thursday on a farm along the 5500 block of Jacksonville Road, Centre County Chief Deputy Coroner John D. Kubalak wrote in a press release Friday.
Glick was entangled in a silage chopper while filling a corn silo on the Marion Township farm, Kubalak wrote. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The machines are designed to chop forage plants such as corn to create silage, a form of animal feed.
No autopsy was scheduled as of about 1:30 p.m. Friday, Kubalak told the Centre Daily Times. State police at Rockview are assisting in the investigation. The Howard Fire Co. and Beech Creek-Blanchard EMS assisted Thursday.
There were 19 known agricultural fatalities last year in Pennsylvania, according to Penn State researchers. That’s lower than the long-term average of 28 per year, but researchers said agricultural fatalities can vary greatly from year to year and are underreported.
All but three were men and 42% were from an Anabaptist community. About one-fifth were between 20 and 64 years old.
