No injuries were reported and Trader Joe’s reopened following a brief closure Thursday after a State College man unintentionally crashed into the business’ storefront.

The 77-year-old drove over a sign post and then crashed into the sliding glass doors of the business about 8:50 a.m. Thursday, Patton Township police Chief Tyler Jolley said in a press release. The driver said he was parked in a handicapped spot at the front of the store when he mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.

Neither he, his 74-year-old female passenger from State College nor anyone around 243 Patriot Lane were injured, Jolley said. The Toyota Corolla was towed from the scene.

No charges will be filed, Jolley said. Trader Joe’s reopened 11 a.m. Thursday after the Centre Region Code Administration assessed the building.

The crash came almost seven years to the day a State College woman slammed her vehicle into Trader Joe’s under similar circumstances. She also hit the accelerator instead of the brake.
