Curiosity is the spark within each of us that fuels exploration and growth. It’s the motivation that drives people to take the next step toward their goals. At Mid-State Literacy Council (MSLC), curiosity is a daily practice, as adult learners ask questions that help them learn the English language, prepare for the GED high school equivalency exam, apply for a new job, or build digital skills.

The spirit of curiosity drives MSLC’s 11th Annual Barnes & Noble Book Fair in State College, taking place from Nov. 21-23, with online support continuing through Black Friday. This year’s theme, “Broadening Perspectives: Expand Your Mind, One Page at a Time,” encourages readers of all ages to see curiosity as a pathway to imagination, understanding, and meaningful engagement with others.

“This year’s book fair highlights the importance of questioning our assumptions, exploring new ideas, and engaging with different viewpoints. With an attitude of openness and curiosity, we can build stronger connections with each other and navigate the complexities of modern life,” said Chelsea Wall, MSLC Board Member and Book Fair Committee Chair.

The weekend lineup blends curiosity with creativity and community connection. Terry Lee Watson said, “I’m excited to be part of Mid-State Literacy Council’s Book Fair and to continue sharing this poetic truth-telling journey in State College, stemming from my book, ‘Welcome to the Sick Mind of a Sane Person.’ It’s a chance to confront the trying times, and to imagine spaces where healing isn’t just possible, but inevitable.”

When shoppers use Book Fair ID #12918413 at checkout (in-store or online), a percentage of sales directly supports MSLC’s mission to empower adults through reading, writing, math, and English communication.
